VIRTUAL REAL TALK

BLACK WOMEN PIONEERS OF TULSA: “In Memory of Eddie Faye Gates”

Eddie Faye Gates (1934-2021) was a significant Tulsa historian, researcher, and teacher activist

whose research took her all over the world. Her reflections on the history of the transatlantic slave

trade while in England and the Holocaust while in Poland and Israel powerfully shaped her

understanding of the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921 when she returned to Oklahoma. Her work with

1921 Tulsa Race Massacre survivors preserve the stories of more than 200 people, as well as

information from more than 300 of their descendants. This Women's History Month, we pay homage to

Mrs. Gates by honoring her memory and the memory of Black women in Oklahoma whose work

radically changed the landscape throughout our state and this country. This Real Talk will pay tribute to

the Black women who came before while looking forward to the future. Black women who will take

Tulsa and this state to new destinations. Join us Saturday, March 26, 2022, from 2 pm-3 pm for "Real

Talk: Black Women Pioneers of Tulsa."

Join us Saturday, March 26th at 2:00 pm CST, as we explore food insecurity, it’s societal impact, policy action, and multi-scaled innovative solutions to this ongoing issue.
